About
Ansley Pye
Contemporary Abstract Artist
San Diego, California
Ansley Pye is a San Diego–based contemporary artist whose work explores transformation, texture, and the emotional marks left behind by life’s experiences. Working primarily in oil, her paintings move between abstract still life, abstract botanicals, and richly layered textural abstraction.
Originally turning to art as a form of healing after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of twenty-nine, Ansley developed a deeply intuitive creative practice rooted in resilience, imperfection, and personal evolution. Her work often reflects the beauty found in weathered surfaces, organic forms, and the subtle traces of time.
Known for expressive color palettes, layered textures, and symbolic mark-making, Ansley’s paintings invite viewers into contemplative spaces that feel both personal and universal. Her work balances spontaneity with restraint, allowing texture, movement, and material to become part of the narrative itself.
Ansley’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and is held in numerous private and corporate collections.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the visible and invisible marks left behind by life’s experiences. Through layers of paint, texture, gesture, and organic form, I investigate the relationship between beauty, imperfection, healing, and transformation.
I began my professional career in watercolor during the late 1980s, initially using art as a means of navigating personal healing. Over time, my work evolved from representational botanical imagery into a more abstract visual language centered around emotion, memory, and surface.
Nature remains a constant influence in my practice. Leaves, flowers, branches, and weathered forms often appear throughout my work—not as literal subjects, but as symbols of resilience, fragility, and renewal. I am drawn to textures that feel aged, imperfect, layered, and lived-in because they reflect the emotional landscapes we all carry.
Today, my paintings focus primarily on abstract still life, abstract botanicals, and pure textural abstraction. I work intuitively, building layers through splatters, expressive marks, and organic movement until each piece reveals its own balance between tension and harmony.
For me, painting is both exploration and restoration. I hope my work offers viewers a space for reflection, connection, and the recognition that beauty often exists within imperfection itself.
